Dave Lippa 2026 Citizen of the Year

David Lippa is the founder of Stop the 22 a Day, an advocacy initiative he launched in 2014 to raise awareness about the mental health struggles faced by Veterans and First Responders. For more than a decade, David has devoted himself to supporting individuals battling depression, PTSD, and thoughts of suicide…often serving as a voice for those who feel they cannot speak for themselves. David’s understanding of mental health comes directly from spending countless hours talking with veterans, first responders, and community members about their experiences with trauma, depression, and resilience. He has worked closely with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. His advocacy extends across the community, including his involvement with the West Webster Fire Department, and helping to maintain their Memorial on Lake Road. David has also coordinated drives for Rochester’s homeless population, collecting winter clothing, food, and essentials for those in need. His personal mission intensified in 2016, when he lost his best friend, Special Agent Ryan Gibbs, to suicide. Two days later, Ryan’s golden retriever came into David’s life, becoming his loyal companion and fellow advocate until his passing last year. Motivated by grief, but driven by purpose, David dedicated himself fully to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. He even wrapped his truck to create a rolling billboard, ensuring that the conversation about mental health happens openly, not behind closed doors. In addition, David is a Patriot Guard Rider, honoring those who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. David’s work has earned him several recognitions throughout the area, including the Jefferson Award, and a Proclamation from Monroe County. David is supported by his amazing wife of seven years, Michelle, who stands by his side, assists with his advocacy efforts, and joins him on small adventures that keep them grounded and connected. David’s values remain rooted in compassion, honesty, and
